Buchanan Sr.

John W. Buchanan Sr., 94, of 520 Friendship St., New Castle, formerly of Shenango Township, died Wednesday night in the Golden Hill Nursing Home, New Castle.

Born April 10, 1916, in North Beaver Township, Lawrence County, John was the son of the late James E. and Carrie J. Highfield Buchanan.

He married the former June Agnes Evans. She preceded him in death in 1983 after 41 years of marriage. John then married the former Elnore Hocanson. She preceded him in death in 1999 after 13 years of marriage.

Mr. Buchanan was a Protestant. He was a former member of the Faith Country Chapel Church.

John worked for the Kaplan Trucking Co. as a truck driver and retired with more than 20 years of service. He also worked for Mooney Brothers as a driver for 12 years. John belonged to the Teamsters Local 261.

He enjoyed playing a guitar, keeping a journal, doing puzzles and farming.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Buchanan Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of New Castle, William E. Buchanan of Slippery Rock and Thomas "Tom" M. Buchanan Sr. and his wife, Sally, of New Castle; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Jane Miller and her husband, Robert, of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, June and Elnore; a son, James E. Buchanan; a daughter, Betty June Buchanan; two sisters, Ethel Ketterer and Pearl Herr; and a brother, R. Wayne Buchanan.

<B>BUCHANAN</B> — Calling hours for John W. Buchanan Sr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, are from 5 to 8 p.m., today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the <B>Noga Funeral Home</B>, 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Dale Regner of the Cannelton Baptist Church in Darlington will officiate.
