Reeder

Gary L. "Gib" Reeder, 66, of Clay Township lost his battle with the cancer that he has been fighting since 2004 at 4:46 p.m. Tuesday, while surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 8, 1944, in Grove City. He was the son of the late Carl F. Reeder and Margaret Irene Crouch Reeder.

He was a 1961 graduate of Moniteau High School.

He was an outstanding athlete, having been a halfback on the championship high school football team that was undefeated during the 1959 season, played guard on the high school basketball team and played third base for the West Sunbury baseball team. After high school, he attended Behrend College in Erie.

He had been employed by Kiser Engineering at Armco Steel on Project 600, Mercer Lime as a foreman and retired from Slippery Rock University as a member of the custodial staff.

He enjoyed hunting and his camp in Potter County. He loved life but loved his family more. He also loved to travel, going to the beach, and his dog, Nikky.

He is survived by his wife, Connie K. Grossman Reeder, who he married June 25, 1966; his mother, Margaret "Peg" Reeder of Claytonia; one daughter, Dawn Maier and her husband, Earl, of Slippery Rock; one son, Kurt Reeder and his wife, Karen, of Slippery Rock; and one granddaughter, Courtney Lee Reeder at home. Also surviving are one sister, Margaret "Peggy" McGallis of Slippery Rock; three brothers, Carl and Bev Reeder of Euclid, Joseph and Donna Reeder of Butler and Jack and Alice Reeder of Slippery Rock; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, Robert John Reeder.

<B>REEDER</B> — Friends of Gary L. "Gib" Reeder, who died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, will be received at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Tim Britton of the United Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
