Lois Virginia (Arentz) Waldkoenig, 80, of Zelienople died Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Mary Sterner Arentz.

For the past five years, Mrs. Waldkoenig was a very active resident of the Passavant Health & Retirement Center, where she was the founding director of the popular Passavant Singers.

For nearly 40 years, she had served the Lutheran Church, directing voice and bell choirs and teaching and planning dynamic programs as part of a ministry team with her husband of 46 years, the late Rev. Gilson C. Waldkoenig.

She lived for 37 years in Uniontown and also lived in Washington, Pa., Erie, and in her hometown of Hanover.

She is survived by three children, the Rev. Martha W. Clementson (the Rev. Kevin) of Westminster, Md., Virginia Blackwell (Floyd) of Houston, Texas, and the Rev. Dr. Gilson A.C. Waldkoenig (Amy) of Gettysburg; and five grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Robert Arentz.
