Bresnehan

John M. "JB" Bresnehan, 82, of Chicora died unexpectedly Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born in Chicora, Feb. 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Merle and Ethel Bresnehan.

John joined the U.S. Navy on Jan. 3, 1946, and was in the military until Nov. 12, 1947, achieving the rank of seaman first class. He served on the U.S.S. Solomon and the U.S.S. Auburn.

He retired from Dumbaugh Electric, where he worked for 30 years, and he also owned and operated a family ice cream business in Chicora.

He was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, where he was a former member of the church council, a member of the Holy Name Society and sang in the choir for more than 60 years.

John was an avid golfer and belonged to the Natili Golf League and the Senior League at Stoughtons. He was a member of the Moose, the American Legion, the VFW and the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department Bowling League.

John loved spending time with his family, and he loved life.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Weiland Bresnehan, who he married Jan. 25, 1950; sons, Gale Bresnehan of Norristown, Dennis (Brenda) Bresnehan of Fenelton, Richard (Mary Lou) Bresnehan of Chicora and Stephen (April) Bresnehan of Meridian; a daughter, Theresa Bresnehan Benedetto of Sharon; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Bresnehan of Butler; and 11 grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Adam, Brian, Amanda, Madison and Caleb Bresnehan and Mark, Michael, Brittany and John Benedetto. Two brothers, Ed Bresnehan of Butler and Eugene Bresnehan of Fenelton, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his son, John E. Bresnehan; a brother, Clyde Bresnehan; and a sister, Stella Perry.

<B>Bresnehan </B>— Friends and family of John M. Bresnehan, who died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Steighner Funeral Home</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock at Main streets, Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, with the Rev. Joseph Pudichery concelebrating with the Rev. DePaul Ripko, O.F.M. Cap.Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.Military honors will be provided by the Lyndora American Legion and the Butler VFW post.
