SR can't avoid 0-10 mark in 2010
GREENVILLE Brandon Henry and Chris Thomas scored two touchdowns each, but Slippery Rock High couldn't avoid completing a winless football season Friday night.
Mike Black had 23 carries for 224 yards and three touchdowns to lead host Greenville to a 40-28 victory over the Rockets (0-10).
Slippery Rock allowed 40 or more points for the seventh consecutive game.
The Rockets took leads of 7-0 and 14-7 early in the game, but fell behind when Tyler Gentile threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Erik Travaglini with 5:19 left in the third quarter.
A blocked punt by Zach Johnson gave Greenville (5-5) possession at the Slippery Rock 10-yard line shortly thereafter. Black scored on a 3-yard run to open up a 14-point lead.
Henry rushed for 164 yards on 17 carries for the Rockets, and Thomas had 95 yards on 12 carries. Slippery Rock failed to complete a pass in the game.

Numerous Karns City varsity soccer players earned berths on the Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League's all-league team.Evan McGarvey, a sophomore forward, was named the boys league MVP. He tallied 16 goals and 17 assists.Junior midfielder Justin Ryan (20 goals, 6 assists), senior forward Kristian Crosbie (10 goals, 11 assists) and senior midfielder Ethan McGarvey (8 goals, 15 assists) also made the All-UAVSL team from the Gremlins.Sophomore defender Andrew Johnston (5 goals, 5 assists) made honorable mention.The Karns City boys won their seventh straight UAVSL championship with a 9-1 record. Their overall mark was 13-4-1.The KC girls won their second consecutive District 9 crown. Senior defender Kara Yasika was named league MVP. She scored four goals and had an assist.Junior defender Erin McCue (2 goals, 1 assist), junior forward Emily Olszak (15 goals, 11 assists) and junior midfielder Alyssa King (7 goals, 7 assists) also made the girls team.Freshman forward Breann Wood (13 goals, 12 assists) and junior goalkeeper Lauren Downs (14 shutouts) received honorable mentions.
