Experience won out over youth.

Johnsonburg's veteran roster overcame a two-set deficit against A-C Valley to oust the youthful Falcons 21-25, 22-25, 25-11, 25-20, 15-2 in the District 9 Class A girls volleyball semifinals Thursday night.

Johnsonburg had five seniors in the starting lineup while A-C Valley had one Megan Cratty and five sophomores.

“I'm proud of the girls,” said A-C Valley coach Doug Knox. “But their seniors came on strong for them in the fourth and fifth sets.”

For a while, it looked like youth would be served.

Tricia Kerlin had nine kills and Kelsey Boocks had six kills for the Falcons (12-3), but they were routed in the final set.

“We started playing like sophomores,” Knox said.
