Helen P. Richards
Helen Porter Richards, 92, formerly of Meridian, was reunited with her Lord Sept. 15 at the WNC Baptist Home in Asheville, N.C.
Born in Mudlick, Armstrong County, she was one of six children born to the late William Albert and Zora Irwin Porter.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Arlene Foulk of Meridian, Eleanor Ripper of Evans City, and Evelyn Holter and William Albert Porter Jr., both of Grove City.
Helen lived a life of service and passion not only caring for others but as a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church.
As a registered nurse, she graduated from nursing school in Sharon in 1939 followed by service to her country during World War II as an Army Air Corps nurse, where she met and married her husband of 61 years, Nelson F. Richards, who preceded her in death. Together they raised five children.
She is survived by her children, William N. Richards of Hamilton, Mont., the Rev. Richard P. (Patti) Richards of Alcoa, Tenn., James H. (Sandra) Richards of Flemington, Mo., and Susan R. (Shandra) (Ron) Toler and Randy L. (Cindy Dollar) Richards, all of Asheville, N.C.; and her brother, James (Martha) Porter of Maryville, Tenn.
Helen will be greatly missed by her children, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and their children, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
<B>RICHARDS</B> — A memorial service for Helen Porter Richards, who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, will be at the Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton Smicksburg Road, Dayton, Armstrong County, Pa., on Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. with internment immediately following at the church cemetery. The Rev. Richard P. Richards will officiate.
