Dr. Willis L. Supler
Dr. Willis Lee "Will" Supler, 80, of Gloucester, Va., passed away Thursday due to an extended illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, Aug. 20, 1930, he was the only son of Betty and Willis Lee Supler, both of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Supler graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in 1952 and a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1956.
He practiced dentistry in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1959. He then moved to Butler in 1959 and practiced dentistry here until 1990.
He married Marguerite L. Rawlings in 1955. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jonathon Will Supler and his wife, Susan, of Raleigh, N.C., Blaise Supler and her husband, Carl Jess, of El Paso, Texas, Timothy L. Supler and his wife, Beverly, of Newport News, Va., and Marguerite S. Mullen and her husband, Timothy, of Saxonburg; grandchildren, Katie Supler, currently serving the Peace Corps in the Philippines, Heather Supler of Houston, Texas, Daniel and Andrew Mullen of Saxonburg, Trevor and Eva Jess of El Paso, Texas, and Keith Kenyon of Valencia; and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Supler was a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania. He was a past president of the Butler County Dental Society, a past member of the board of directors of the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania and past chairman of its ethics committee. He was active in the alumni association of the University of Pittsburgh and was on the volunteer faculty of the University of Pittsburgh as coordinator for continuing education in Butler County for the dental school for 25 years.
Dr. Supler was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as records secretary for a number of years. He was a member of the Butler Lions Club for more than 15 years and was president of that organization. Dr. Supler served on the board of the Center on Rape and Assault and was its secretary. He also was a consultant for the Department of Welfare. He served on the Citizens Advisory Committee to the city of Butler and on the White House Conference on Aging. In retirement, he served on the board of the American Heart Association.He and his wife retired to Gloucester in 1991, where he was a member of the Middle Peninsula Fine Arts Association, the Ware River Yacht Club and the St. Therese Roman Catholic Church.
