The Last Leaf on the Tree
By Berdie Slater
May 7, 2010
Seeing brightness of colors,
Leaves twisting as they blow.
Giving off sunshine,
Like an autumn's last glow.
As October's canvas
Painted by God.
Holding His palette
Like a brick layer's hod.
Trees begin their dancing,
Stripping as they go.
Yearly rhythm season,
When branchiness does show.
Finally there is nakedness.
Leaves have almost departed.
One remaining lonely leaf
Hangs on, but just half-hearted.
It is hard to be that leaf.
Formerly grown with life and laughter.
Now the last to leave the tree,
Heading to the here-after.
Tootie is the Last Leaf remaining
Of her true family tree.
She's been waving gracefully,
Sharing "SON"-Shine to you and me.
Telling everyone how much she loves
Their person and their being.
Sharing of God's GRACE to her
And the measures of His leading.
Knowing of her eternal home,
She tells us of His love.
"God's been good to me." She'd say,
"I've seen Jesus from above."
Letting go ain't easy.
This body hangs on tight.
Finally God releases her
To come towards His light.
We sorrow through the night time.
Joy comes to us at dawn.
Her leaf has left its dwelling place
To enter where it's drawn.
Mortal meet immortality!
Incorruptible! Righteous clothed!
"God has been GOOD to me!"
"I am His bride betrothed."
Her leaf has left its branches.
With a fragrant, memorable life...
Becoming now a sweet savor,
Waiting...as Jesus' promised wife.
