FOXBURG — The nightmare is over.

A-C Valley ended its 46-game high school football losing streak Saturday afternoon with a 13-8 victory over Hancock (Md.).

The Falcons' last win occurred Oct. 7, 2005 — a 26-13 triumph over Union.

"I'm excited for these kids," A-C Valley coach Chris McNany said. "This happened on our senior day and our seniors had never experienced a varsity win."

Senior Alex Ford scored the winning points, using a block from left tackle Chris Elliott to scamper 29 yards for a touchdown with 4:19 left in the game.

Ford had 16 carries for 107 yards and two TDs. He scored on a 6-yard run to snap a scoreless tie in the second quarter.

"Alex broke about four tackles to get that last touchdown," McNany said. "For the first time since I've been here, our kids believed in themselves in the second half of a football game.

"They knew we were controlling the game. We should have been up by three touchdowns. We had a couple of turnovers and they had a goal-line stand against us."

The Falcons had eight quarterback sacks. Other than a 67-yard touchdown pass to Eli Souders that gave the visitors an 8-7 lead in the third quarter, Hancock (3-5) managed only 40 net yards offensively.

"Our defensive line of Robert Sibble, Lee Russell and Cole Hardick controlled the line of scrimmage," McNany said.

Jimmy Holton, a sophomore, paced A-C Valley with 13 tackles and a forced fumble. Sibble had 10 tackles and a quarterback sack, Russell nine tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Hardick had eight tackles, blocked a punt and forced a fumble.

"After they scored on that long pass play, our kids had a bit of that 'here we go again' look," McNany admitted. "But they fought back. That team couldn't move the ball on us."

Hancock plays a freelance schedule outside of Maryland. Its coach is a Clarion University graduate and good friends with Brookville coach Chris Dworek.

Hancock had originally called Union about the possibility of filling an open date on the schedule.

"Their coach has a lot of ties to this area. Union had already found an opponent, so (late Union coach) Al Pryor told them about us," McNany said. "We got a call and we had the same weekend available."

A-C Valley (1-6) plays at Union this Friday.
