Gremlins run wild
KARNS CITY — The Karns City football team celebrated Senior Night with yardage — lots and lots of yardage.
The Gremlins rushed for 450 yards and had 628 total yards of offense in a 59-20 home win over Clarion-Limestone Friday night.
Karns City (3-5) had five players run for more than 60 yards. Leading the pack was senior halfback Tyler Slagle, who picked up 80 yards on 12 carries and scored on TD runs of 11, 6, 15, 2, and 22 — his final score putting the Gremlins up 52-14.
Karns City quarterback Dylan Hipple started the game with nine consecutive completions for 162 yards and one touchdown.
"My receivers were getting open and my linemen were giving me time to read the field," said the 5-foot-11, 160-pound quarterback.
Karns City coach Ed Conto had nothing but praise for Hipple.
"He's been throwing the ball well lately. He's a senior coming in with a lot of responsibility on his shoulders," Conto said. "He's hung in there. I think the last couple games of the year he's going to play really well."
Though Clarion-Limestone (1-7) was held to only 35 rushing yards, their quarterback, senior Bill Kelly, completed 14-of-29 passes for 206 yards.
The Lions' three touchdowns came from Kelly on scoring passes of 20, 53 and 10 yards.
Despite the short lapses on defense, Conto said he was impressed with his squad, and he hopes to finish the season strong and make a push for a playoff berth.
"I was pleased we moved the ball, threw the ball and kind of did whatever we wanted to do offensively," the coach said. "On defense, we did a decent job, but we let them have two big plays. Overall, a good, solid game. I think our kids did a nice job on Senior Night."
