JACKSON TWP — With a trip to the WPIAL football playoffs now out of the question, Seneca Valley will be playing for pride.

"You only get the chance to play high school football for so long," said Raiders coach Don Holl. "I told the guys at the beginning of the week, 'Let's go out and play our best game of the year on Friday and go from there.'"

SV (2-5, 0-4) faces another stiff test with North Hills set to invade NexTier Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The Indians (6-1, 3-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, a 19-14 defeat to Erie McDowell.

"There's two ways you can look at it," said Holl of the Indians' situation. "You can say it's tough to play a game in between McDowell and North Allegheny (North Hills' opponent next week), but I'm sure they would also like to get the bad taste of last week's loss out of their mouth.

"If I'm (North Hills coach) Jack McCurry, I know how I'm going to spin it to my team," Holl added.

North Hills senior quarterback Taylor Schmidt left last week's game with an undisclosed injury and his status against Seneca Valley is unclear.

McCurry couldn't be reached for comment.

Schmidt passed for 907 yards and rushed for 609 last season, so his absence could dramatically affect the Indians' offense.

Steve Dutkowski finished the game under center for North Hills, completing 11-of-28 passes with a touchdown and two interceptions.

The Raiders gave up 316 passing yards and four touchdowns last week in a 41-33 loss to Shaler.

On offense, the Raiders have formed a nice 1-2 punch in the ground game with junior David Hall and sophomore Forrest Barnes.

In the last two games, the duo combined for 310 yards and four touchdowns.

"We get a little of everything with those two guys," said Holl. "Forrest is quick, but can also break tackles, and David is very physical, but he can surprise people with his speed.

"Troy Witt can get us some yards in the running game, too."

SV's offensive line has experienced some changes.

Left tackle Tyler Boozel is injured and the position now belongs to Matt Koerper.

Kevin Locke is at center and David Miller is at right tackle. The two guard positions are a rotation between Pat Kulp, Seth Dehart and Jeff Palmer.

Aaron Pynos is the tight end.

Seneca Valley beat North Hills last year, 21-14.
