LATROBE — Giant Eagle has closed a bottling plant in southwestern Pennsylvania once owned by the now-defunct Le-Nature's and cut 86 jobs there.

Chestnut Ridge Beverage had bottled water, teas and carbonated drinks for the Pittsburgh-based supermarket chain and other businesses.

The plant was closed in November 2006, when Le-Nature's was forced into bankruptcy. Giant Eagle bought it for $22.3 million in a bankruptcy court auction in September 2007.

Rob Borella, a Giant Eagle spokesman, told a Pittsburgh newspaper the plant was closed to cut costs and streamline its supply chain.

PITTSBURGH — Consol Energy says it will close a coal mine near Washington, Pa., and idle a mine in Utah.Sixty employees at its Mine 84 in southwestern Pennsylvania will be laid off when the mine closes starting Dec. 1. Consol announced the closing Friday and said it was not making enough money to keep it open.Separately, Consol announced it would idle its Emery Mine near Price, Utah, and furlough the about 170 workers there starting in December. Company officials say the coal mine has about 250,000 tons of coal on hand that have not been sold.
