FORD CITY — After dispatching Burrell last week, Freeport finds itself with another stiff test in the Allegheny Conference — with the winner gaining the upper hand for the title.

The Yellowjackets (3-1, 2-0) will pay a visit to Ford City for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday.

The Sabers (4-0, 2-0) are the only conference team without a loss and are also tied for first in the section with Summit Academy.

"Ford City has so many weapons," said Freeport coach John Gaillot, "and it doesn't matter what Ford City team it is, coach (John) Bartolovic and his staff do a great job.

"We have to be fundamentally sound. Our players need to be in position," Gaillot added.

The Sabers are coming off a 26-3 victory over Shady Side Academy as quarterback Cody Gispanski threw for one score and rushed for another.

Gispanski has completed 20-of-28 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns. He's also rushed for 263 yards on 34 carries.

Gispanski is one of four players with more than 150 yards rushing.

Michael Krochta has gained 264 yards on 57 carries and has scored six TDs. Devan Willyard and Kent Commodore also have carried the load for the Sabers.

Defensively, the Sabers have allowed just three touchdowns.

"They're just aggressive and fly to the ball," said Gaillot. "That's what they do. Whenever they get (the lead), they get even more motivated."

Freeport is fresh off a 24-6 triumph over the Bucs as the team churned out 210 yards on 34 carries, including 102 on 19 carries from Jake Campbell.

Campbell has rushed for 318 yards and five touchdowns and Marcel Ittner 256 on 13 carries and four touchdowns.

Brendan Lynch has passed for 376 yards and rushed for 142 more with four scores.

The team seemed undisciplined and struggled a bit in a 13-10 win over Shady Side Academy two weeks ago before bouncing back against Burrell.

The Yellowjackets are in a better place entering this contest, Gaillot said.

"They're kind of relaxed," said Gaillot. "This year's team is a lot different from last year's team. It's not hoo-rah. ... They realize what's at stake."

Ford City coach John Bartolovic could not be reached for comment.
