Marie A. Whitmer
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Marie Antoinette Whitmer at age 82.
Marie entered this life on Aug. 17, 1928, and entered eternal life on Aug. 25, 2010. She was the fourth of five children and is survived by her siblings Elvira (Carl) Bruno, Armeda (Ken, deceased) McCall and John Carnesali.
Marie was born and raised in Brockway, Jefferson County, and graduated from high school there in 1946 and then Slippery Rock State Teachers College, now University, in 1950.
She taught physical education at the Brockway High School and East Brady High School from 1950 until 1956.
She then raised her five children and served as a substitute teacher in the Karns City School District until the age of 77.
Strong in her Christian faith, she attended a number of local Christian churches.
Throughout her life, she continued to love and help children of all ages and in turn was loved by all her students over the years. Marie was gracious and kind, frequently thinking of others and their needs first. She was an excellent cook — a family legend.
Marie had a true "joie de vivre" — joy of life — in everything that she did, and her beautiful smile will always be remembered.
For the final three years of her life, Marie received loving care at Rivercliff Terrace Annex in Kittanning and at Sugar Creek Rest in Worthington.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Brochetti (John) of Kittanning, Mark Whitmer (Jana) of Waco, Texas, Leslie Huey (Randy) of Butler, Merle Whitmer (Sandy) of Slippery Rock and Elizabeth Bartoe (Greg) of Medina, Ohio; along with 18 grandchildren: Capt. Adam Brochetti and his wife, Nikki, of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; Aaron Brochetti of Pittsburgh; Alissa Merrit and her husband, Capt. Braden, of Holly Ridge, N.C.; Alex Brochetti of Little Rock, Ark.; Andrew Brochetti of Kittanning; Claire Whitmer, Grace Whitmer, William Whitmer and Emmaline Whitmer, all of Waco, Texas; Ashleigh Paxton and her husband, Thayer, of Beaufort, S.C.; Emily Huey of Beaufort, S.C.; Chloe Huey of Butler; Makenzie Huey of Butler, Jacob Whitmer, Jenna Whitmer and Jonathan Whitmer, all of Slippery Rock; and Ethan Bartoe and Joshua Bartoe, both of Medina, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
