Lorene Galligan
Lorene (Horan) Galligan, formerly of Pomona, Calif., died Saturday.
Lorene was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Chicago, the only child of Laurence and Leotta (Hempfling) Horan and was raised in Butler.
She and her parents, moved to Pomona when her father accepted employment at the opening of the newly built Kaiser Steel Plant in Fontana.
She attended Pomona High School, where she graduated in 1948. Later that year, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Galligan, who died in 2002.
She passed away while hospitalized in Vian, Okla., near her new home.
Lorene raised two children, Pamela and Daniel, and lived in Pomona all of her adult life. She was active in several civic and community oriented organizations, such as the Pomona Valley Council 85, the Federation Sons of Columbus, where she was president for many years; the Pomona Emblem Club 196 and was its president multiple times; the YLI Institute 143; and the Catholic Daughters of America; as well as being a lifelong parishioner at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pomona.
She is retired from the CUNA Mutual Insurance Group and also from the Los Angeles County Fair, where she worked for nearly 30 years in the Home Arts/Creative Designs building as well as the main office during the off-fair months.
Lorene is survived by her two children, Pamela (Dale) and Daniel (Lulu); six grandchildren, Pam's children, Tim, Pat and Megan, and Dan's children, George, Olivia and Jack; and five great-grandchildren, (Tim) Rylee, Brennan, (Olivia) Jessie, Victoria and Joshua.
