Classes look at diabetes
The Penn State Cooperative Extension will offer a program called Dining with Diabetes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Slippery Rock Township Building.
Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with diabetes and their families. The series of classes includes four sessions and a follow-up session after three months.
Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to help prepare and taste each one.
In addition, participants will learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common, diabetes-related medical tests.
Recipes, handouts and supplies worth more than $120 will be given to each participant.
Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown those who learn to manage their blood glucose — or sugar — levels eat healthy and exercise regularly can lower their risk of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.
The fee for the workshop is $35 per person or $50 per family. Registration is required. Call 724-774-3003 for additional information and a brochure. You may also download a registration brochure at beaver.extension.psu.edu.
