Job Corps offers BC3 tuition aid
BUTLER TWP — Low-income students can apply for one of 50 full scholarships to Butler County Community College.
Job Corps, a U.S. Department of Labor program, is offering the scholarships to county residents 17 to 24 years old. Applicants who are at least 18 years old can use their own income to qualify.
"There are no future obligations. Students can live at home and attend BC3 on a Job Corps scholarship," said Richard Heckert, Job Corps recruiter for the county.
The scholarship includes full tuition, books, a bus pass or gas card, clothing vouchers and a monthly stipend for other expenses. Tutoring and academic support also are available.
New and current students are eligible as long as they are legal U.S. residents, free of criminal court obligations, and have either a high school diploma or GED. Applicants also must pass BC3's placement test and attend full-time.
For information, contact Job Corps college counselors at BC3, 724-287-8711 or call admissions counselor Rich Heckert at 800-392-8805, Ext. 16.
BC3 already offers full tuition to county residents who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class. This year, 75 students will receive the Academic Honors scholarship.
More than 60 other scholarships also are available. Details can be found on the college's website scholarship page at www.bc3.edu/financialaid/scholarships.asp.
