LEETSDALE — The Freeport offensive line paved the way for eight rushing touchdowns Friday night in a one-sided football game against Quaker Valley.

The Yellowjackets rushed for 361 yards as they defeated the Quakers, 57-0.

Behind the strong offensive line were two running backs, junior Marcell Ittner and senior Jake Campbell, who posted three touchdowns each.

Ittner tipped his cap to the offensive line for his success.

"The offensive line deserves all of the credit," Ittner said. "They put up good blocks all game and I just had to make the moves past defenders once I got into space."

The Freeport defense played a solid game as well, allowing Quaker Valley only 81 yards of offense.

The action started off fast for the Yellowjackets as they scored their first touchdown with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter. Campbell found a gap in the line and took the ball 41 yards into the end zone.

After that score, the touchdowns piled up as Campbell scored four minutes later. That was followed by a 61-yard run by Ittner in which he broke several tackles at the line and took off through a hole up the side of the field to the end zone.

The 21-0 score at the end of the first quarter got even better in the second as the offensive line continued to open holes for Ittner and company, leading to a 49-0 halftime advantage.

Ittner's touchdown in the second quarter was from 52 yards out, but it had all of the characteristics of his 61- yard run in the first quarter. After running through a gaping hole, Ittner made some moves and headed for his third touchdown of the game.

Freeport coach John Galliot noted his offensive line's health as a key to its success on the night.

"The O-line is finally healthy again," Galliot said. "With them opening holes and Jack and Marcell running well, our offense will be a threat this season."

With the run game flourishing, there wasn't much need for passing, but sophomore quarterback Brendan Lynch attempted two aerials, both completions to senior wide receiver Derek Durand.

Lynch rested the entire second half as senior Curtis Hughes replaced him and led Freeport on its final scoring drive, which sophomore running back Damon Smith completed with a 2-yard TD run.

The Yellowjackets' next game with be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Shady Side Academy.
