JEFFERSON TWP — Knoch ran over, through and around the Brashear defense last Friday at Cupples Stadium.

It will be a different venue and different opponent this Friday — but Knights coach Mike King hopes to see more of the same.

Fresh off its 56-7 win over the Bulls, Knoch hosts Albert Gallatin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Colonials have a first-year head coach in Jeff Rush, are coming off a 39-0 loss to Steel Valley and have won more than three games in a season once in the past seven years.

Knoch rushed for 364 yards last week — Andrew Rumburg-Goodlin getting 146 and Adam Tuzikow 124 — while having to throw just one pass.

"They both had outstanding games," King said. "The holes were there and they hit them.

"Our offensive line deserves all the credit in the world. I can't say enough about how well they played that night. They're all seniors, they're a veteran group. ... I'm hoping this continues from week to week."

The Knights' offensive front includes Ben Lesniak at center, Josh Graham and Joe Hlebiczki at guard, James Zellhart and Mason Roberts at tackle, Dan McCormick at tight end.

By comparison, Albert Gallatin has no returning offensive linemen and only one senior, center Danny Morgan, up front.

The Colonials play in the Class AAA Keystone Conference.

"We had five turnovers last week ... four lost fumbles, one returned for a touchdown," Rush said. "Our defense played very well at times, but we put ourselves in too many holes.

"It was frustrating. I didn't bother to look at the stat sheet after the game. It wasn't pretty."

Rush has changed the team's offense somewhat, moving 1,000-yard rusher Grayling Sanders to quarterback and going with the triple option.

"It's more of a freeze option," King said. "When they face a 44 defense like ours, they don't block one of the tackles coming in. If that tackle goes for the fullback, the quarterback pulls the ball back and keeps it himself.

"That offense can give you fits and they've got a game under their belt with it now."

Albert Gallatin has been slow to get that offense down, however.

"It's difficult even with an experienced offensive line and we're very inexperienced up front," Rush allowed. "It's going to take some time, no doubt about that."

The Knights were sharp defensively last week, allowing Brashear only 135 yards net offense, including minus 19 on the ground.

"They moved the ball a little bit with their quarterback in the shotgun and their offense in the spread," King said. "This is an entirely different offense we're seeing this week."

King praised the work of defensive end Bob Winters and safety Mac Megahan last week.

Knoch suffered no injuries last week and now must prepare for an unknown opponent.

"I can't remember us ever playing them," King said. "I saw them in their scrimmage with Waynesburg and they looked pretty good.

"This is a chance for us to go 2-0 heading into conference play. Hopefully, we'll take advantage of it."

While the Colonials haven't played Knoch, Rush knows enough about the Knights to realize what he's up against.

"This is another formidable opponent for us," he said. "But I'm not looking at wins and losses at this point. I'm trying to improve our guys as football players right now."
