LOWER BURRELL — A paramedic was ordered to stand trial on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing justice because police say she interfered when an officer tried to use a stun gun on an unruly, suicidal woman.

A district judge ordered Jodi Kerr-Rummel, 31, of Derry to stand trial after a hearing Wednesday.

The charges stem from an incident April 9 in Lower Burrell when police were struggling with a woman they were trying to take to a hospital psychiatric unit. Police said the paramedic endangered herself and the officers when she stepped between them and the woman while they were trying to use the stun gun. The paramedic eventually left and the suicidal woman was subdued with the device. The paramedic's attorney says she was just trying to do what was best for the patient.

WASHINGTON — Police said a teenager jumped from an out-of-control sport utility vehicle that crashed through a fence and ended up in a community swimming pool.Police said the 17-year-old driver was trying to put the Ford Explorer into gear about 1 a.m. Sunday when it began to roll backward. The girl tried to stop the SUV but jumped out before it picked up too much speed. The vehicle rolled down a hill, through a fence and crashed into the pool at Cameron Estates in Washington. The driver suffered minor bruises and no other injuries were reported.

PITTSBURGH — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating two incidents in which someone shined a green laser into the cockpits of two medical helicopters.STAT MedEvac spokesman Dan Nakles said the main concern is the lights could distract pilots or their crew. FAA spokesman Jim Peters said the first incident happened about 9:10 p.m. Saturday about 11½ miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The other incident happened about 7½ miles north of the city, but a time wasn't specified.
