3:05 p.m. Thursday — Ryan M. Mazzanti, 29, of West Sunbury is accused of taking $200 that was unknowingly left behind by an automated teller machine customer at First Niagara Bank on Center Avenue.The customer tried to withdraw the money from her account but got "confused" with the machine," a police report said. She went into the bank unaware that the money was being dispensed.Mazzanti, who happened to be making a delivery for a Butler restaurant to the bank, walked upon the ATM and allegedly took the customer's money. A bank security camera captured on video the suspect taking the money, police said.Mazzanti is charged with theft of lost or mislaid property.12:04 p.m. Thursday — An unidentified car struck the passenger side of a pickup truck at Ballpark Street and Filmore Avenue. The driver of the red, late-1990s or early-2000s Nissan Sentra did not stop after hitting the pickup driven by 41-year-old William Hilliard of Butler. Hilliard told police that a Hispanic woman was driving the car that was occupied by two passengers, both black males.Thursday — A red gas grill was stolen overnight from the porch of a home in the 700 block of West Penn Street. The grill is valued at $100.4:12 p.m. Wednesday — Arthur Paul Day Jr., 41, no known address, was arrested for allegedly building a fire near a wooded area off Kittanning Street, and then becoming unruly when Butler firefighters put out the fire.The fire department was called to the area on Kittanning Street between Gorillio's Pizza and the railroad tracks for a burning complaint. There, firefighters found Day, who admitted he had been "burning all day and had cut down the wood for the fire," a police report said.The defendant is accused of calling firefighters derogatory names and challenging them to fight him as they put out the fire. When police drove up, the suspect ran but was quickly caught.Day was taken to the police station and placed in the holding cell, where he shoved a mattress in the toilet and repeatedly flushed, the report said. He also urinated on the cell floor, police said.District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Day on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, public drunkenness and making an illegal bonfire, and remanded him to the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Wednesday — An unknown vandal smashed out a 5-foot-by-4-foot window on the side of the Butler Ambulance Service building on First Street. Damage was estimated at $300.
Thursday — A video camera was found on North Duffy Road near Butler Commons. The owner can claim the camera at the police station at 290 S. Duffy Road.6:23 p.m. Wednesday — Cars driven by Nicole Saeler, 37, and Ethan Eberle, 32, both of Butler collided on the Route 8 bridge above Route 422.1:55 p.m. Tuesday — An unknown thief stole a wallet from the driver's license center at Point Plaza. Police said the owner had left his wallet unattended on a desk while speaking to an employee. Moments later, he found the wallet gone.8:23 a.m. Aug. 9 — Bobbie Jo Nash, 36, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at Hansen Avenue and Arbor Street.
Wednesday — Police reported they charged a 16-year-old boy with the May 3 break-in at the Hair Emporium on Opre Avenue. The boy faces burglary and other charges in Mercer County juvenile court.Aug. 10 — An unknown thief stole a Mac Book Pro laptop computer, Brooks Brothers brown leather bag, a Verizon Wireless Internet stick and a passport from an unlocked vehicle at a Forest Drive home. The theft happened Aug. 9 or 10.
