LATROBE — The Carnegie Museum of Natural History says natural gas companies have approach it about drilling on the museum's nature preserve.

Carnegie spokeswoman Betsy Momich says several companies have inquired about drilling at the site. She says the museum's trustees are studying those proposals but are a long way from approving them at the 2,200-acre Powdermill Nature Reserve.

Momich says any environmental impact is at the top of a list of things being considered by the trustees. Momich says the revenue from drilling is also a factor.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — A California man who says he ordered French onion soup and bit into a condom instead of melted cheese has settled his lawsuit against the Claim Jumper restaurant chain.The terms of Wednesday's settlement were not disclosed. Both sides say in a statement the deal indicates no admission of liability by either party.Zdenek Philip Hodousek of Mission Viejo sued in Superior Court last summer seeking unspecified damages.He says he was eating Easter brunch with his family when he bit into the condom.The company says it found no evidence of a foreign object in the soup or that there was any employee involvement or wrongdoing.According to the chain's website, there are 46 Claim Jumper restaurants in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin.

NEW YORK — The Empire State Building's owner lost his bid to stop a new skyscraper from rising in the neighborhood when the New York City Council approved zoning and land use changes Wednesday that pave the way for the 1,190-foot tower.The project, called 15 Penn Plaza, is still in the planning stages. But the plans alone for a glass office tower, which would stand higher than the Empire State Building's 86-floor observatory, infuriated the landmark's owner, Anthony Malkin, so much that he called it an "assault on New York City and its iconography.""We can't make decisions based on one building," said Councilman Mark Weprin. "The city has to grow, and it's going to continue to grow."
