Sipos

Joseph Sipos, 81, of Butler, died Friday at his home.

Born Feb. 28, 1929, in Jerome, Somerset County, he was a son of the late John and Theresa (Puskas) Sipos.

He had worked as a plumber and steamfitter for the VA Butler Healthcare for 30 years, until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, where he was a board member and a choir member. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 778, the Slovak Club, and was a life member of VFW Post 249 in Butler. Joe enjoyed woodworking, golfing, gardening and playing the harmonica.

A veteran of World War II, he had served with the United States Navy and, following that, he sailed with the merchant mariners.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores S. (Joseph) Sipos, whom he married Sept. 13, 1952; two daughters, Barbara Janusheske and her husband, Mike of San Antonio, Texas, and Linda Beverley and her husband, Jeff of Gastonia, N.C.; a son, Lawrence Sipos and his wife, Lori, of Wexford; a brother-in-law, Donald Joseph of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Jennifer Bisang and her husband, Kevin of San Antonio, Anthony Weber and his wife, Trina of Detroit, Mich., Theresa Miles of Charlotte, N.C., Lindsey Sipos of Pittsburgh, Megan Sipos of Zelienople and Luke Sipos of Wexford; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Marissa Weber.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Sipos, six brothers and two sisters, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

<B>SIPOS</B> — Friends of Joseph Sipos, who died Friday, July 23, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, Pillow Street, Butler. The Rev. Gregory Long, pastor, will officiate.Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.Trisagion Prayers will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
