Band marks CD release with concert at Succop Theater

BUTLER TWP — The band Persephone's Dream has engaged the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College for a performance celebrating the group's fifth CD, "Pan: An Urban Pastoral."

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Actually, the band will have use of the theater for several days, including set up and take down time for all its equipment.

"Since it's art rock, it's a little theatrical, with a light show and intense music," said John Tallent, who plays percussion and drums for the group.

Along with Tallent, band members include area musicians: Rowen Poole, guitar and synthesizer; Jim Waugaman, keyboards of all sorts and vocals; Roman Prokopenko, bass; Scot Harvey, drums and percussion; and Ashley Peer and Josephine Crooks, both vocals.

Tallent described PD's music as "progressive rock that harkens back to the art rock period of the '60s and early '70s."

"We don't want to sound like anybody else," Tallent said. "We never even tried to sound like anything else than what it became."

It's been four and a half years since the group's fourth CD. The seven band members like to schedule a performance each time they release a CD. For the fourth CD, they rented a venue in Springdale; for the third, it was in Baltimore.

Among their CDs to date, about 3,000 have sold, Tallent said.

"We have fans all over the world," he said, indicating a mailing list of almost 1,000 online.

The newest CD is divided into four pieces, some of which have multiple tracks just because of length, Tallent said.

The CD is available online at www.amazon.com and www.progrockrecords.com. CDs will also be available at the show Aug. 28. Tickets to the show are $10 at the door. Tickets are also available online at www.bc3.edu/theater.
