Hargis

Chief Master Sgt.

LuWana Gail Hargis, daughter of Rick and Jan Staugh of Chicora, retired from the U.S. Air Force on June 25 at Altus Air Force Base, Okla., after 28 years of service.She attended East Brady High School, and following graduation in 1982, enlisted in the Air Force.Hargis, who achieved the rank of chief master sergeant on Sept. 1, 2007, made history as the first female chief master sergeant of the fuels division in the history of the Air Force. As such, her picture will hang at the Fuels Specialist School at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.While serving in the Air Force, she received a bachelor's in human resource management from Excelsior College.She and her husband, retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Hargis, met while stationed at Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan. They live in Altus, Okla., and have two children.——Spc.

Steven Walter, currently stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., just returned from a one-year deployment to Iraq.He was a Stryker vehicle commander.He completed basic training and airborne school in Georgia and has been stationed in Washington for the past three years.The 2004 graduate of Butler High School is the son of Charles and Donna Walter of Butler.——

Air Force Airman <B>James Schafer </B>graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.He is the son of Barbara and Mark Schafer of Mars.Schafer is a 2009 graduate of Mars High School.——Air Force Airman <B>Jeffrey McFadden </B>graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.McFadden, a 2009 graduate of Moniteau High School, is the son of Maryann McFadden of Harrisville.——<B>David-Michael Sanders</B>, son of Dawn and John Sanders of Cabot, recently completed the basic engineer equipment electrical systems technician course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.Sanders is a 2009 graduate of Knoch High School and joined the Marine Corps in August 2009.——Marine Corps Lance Cpl. <B>Richard Hoffman</B>, son of Elizabeth and John Hoffman of Butler, recently completed the basic engineer equipment electrical systems technician course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N. C.Hoffman, a 2009 graduate of Butler High School, joined the Marine Corps in August 2009.
