GETTYSBURG — Butler County Treasurer Diane Marburger was named president of the Pennsylvania Treasurers' Association at its recent annual convention.
As president, Marburger will lead the association on legislative issues that affect the treasurers across the state as well as licensing issues mandated by the state Fish and Boat Commission, the state Game Commission or the state Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.
Marburger was first elected county treasurer in 1999. She is a graduate of Indiana (Pa.) University with a degree in finance and a master's in management information systems. She also is a graduate of Butler County Community College.
In 2004, she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from BC3.
She is a graduate of Leadership Butler County and has been on the Leadership board since 2000. She graduated from the Anstine Series of Excellence in Public Service Series in 2009, is on the county's Community Action Board and is treasurer for the Glade Run Athletic Ministry for its Upward basketball program.
Marburger lives in Adams Township with her husband and two children.
LANCASTER, Ohio — John Wellner, originally of Butler, was recently recognized as a 2010 Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.He is a partner at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease law firm, and was picked by Chambers & Partners, an international attorney guide publication, for his legal skill, professional conduct and client service.He is the son of Russell and Madalyne Wellner of Butler, and is a 1972 Butler High School graduate. He also is a graduate of Indiana (Pa.) University and Ohio State University.
PARKER, Armstrong County — Matt Alderson has been hired by Central Electric Cooperative as its new manager of safety and operations.He has been the safety and compliance manager for an electric cooperative in Ohio.Alderson is a graduate of Slippery Rock University where he majored in safety management. He lives in Grove City.
FOXBURG — The Butler County, Clarion, Franklin, Grove City and Venango Area chambers of commerce will have a joint mixer here from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11.The free mixer will be at the Foxburg Inn Hotel's dock on the Allegheny River. WASHINGTON — A weak June jobs report offered the latest evidence that the economic recovery is slowing.Employers cut 125,000 jobs last month, the most since October, the Labor Department said Friday. The loss was driven by the end of 225,000 temporary census jobs. Businesses added a net total of 83,000 workers, the sixth straight month of private-sector job gains but not enough to speed up the recovery.From staff and wire reports.
