Alcoa to buy Traco

CRANBERRY TWP — Traco, the longtime window manufacturing company with deep roots in the township, is being bought by Alcoa, another well-known company with deep ties to the Pittsburgh region.

Alcoa officials announced this morning Alcoa agreed to buy Traco, the privately held window and door maker, for an undisclosed price.

The sale is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year.

Traco employs 650 people at its 1 million-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing operation at 71 Progress Ave.

Traco, founded in 1943 as the Three Rivers Aluminum Company, offers a full range of window and door manufacturing and services, including engineering, extrusion, finishing and electrostatic painting, glass insulation and tempering, and glass lamination.

When the sale is completed, Traco will become part of Alcoa Building and Construction Systems, a global provider of architectural systems, with customers in North America, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
