Historic city tours offered
For the second year, Butler Downtown and the Butler County Historical Society will offer tours of historic downtown Butler this summer.
The walking tours are themed and highlights include inside looks at the Lowrie/ Shaw house, the Butler County Courthouse, the Lafayette building, the T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil Co. office, the PNC Bank board room, the Little Red School House, St. Paul Catholic Church, the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, and a rooftop view of Butler's "skyscraper."
The trolley tour will highlight businesses and people behind Main Street's historic and architecturally significant buildings. There also is evidence of Butler's industrial boom beginning in the late 1800s, 19th-century homes of Butler's early settlers and prominent citizens.
The trolley tour includes free admission to the Butler County Heritage Center following the one-hour tour.
Contact Butler Downtown for ticket prices, times and tour information at 724-256-5769 or becky@butlerdowntown.org. Proceeds will benefit Butler Downtown and the historical society.
