GOP doesn't have cure

As I watched the GOP political ads lately, it appeared to me that Carl Rove was at it again. "Big government is bad, government spending is out of control," etc.

Does the GOP have a miracle cure for everything? It certainly doesn't appear so.

The GOP claims to want to help middle class America. I would dispute that claim with the following examples.

The government bailed out General Motors against the wishes of the GOP. GM paid back the original loan five years early with interest and intends to pay back the entire amount to regain full ownership.

Ford's chief executive officer stated that the bailout was good, because if GM and Chrysler went under, many suppliers would have gone bankrupt also, dragging Ford with them. Thousands of American jobs were saved by the bailout.

Not one Republican voted for the health care bill. This bill does not help rich people. People with money either have good health insurance or can afford to buy it. This bill helps American families afford the health coverage that everyone deserves to have.

The Securities and Exchange Commission filed fraud charges against Goldman Sachs recently. The GOP howled and said how unjust that was. However, when public outcry was highly in favor of the charges, the GOP did an instant about-face. Then the GOP tried to water down any new bill that would keep these companies in check.

From these above examples, it's easy to see where the GOP stands when it comes to helping working-class Americans.

More than 45 years ago, my grandfather told me the Democratic Party always tried to help the average American. That still is true today.
