WEST SUNBURY — Frank McCall and Jeremy Sawyer of Butler, competing in the 8-cylinder rally and 6-cylinder rally divisions, respectively, won their off-road races in muddy conditions recently at Rolling W Ranch.

Anthony Dorenkamp of Chicora won the 4-cylinder rally class while Aron Wulff of West Sunbury won the Woods Buggy division.

Other winners were Rob Groth of Richfield, Ohio. (Super Woods Buggy), Lonnie Zimmerman of Pleasant Unity (Limited Super Buggy), John Betler of Pittsburgh (Super Buggy) and Chris Barkley of Petersburgh, Ohio, (Pilot).

PITTSBURGH — The WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association named Freeport's Chris Graczyk the Class AA Coach of the Year.The Yellowjackets were 15-2, 12-0 in section play, before bowing to Bishop Canevin in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.

HERMITAGE — Sewickley Heights Golf Club professional Kevin Shields and St. Jude Golf Club member Nathan Smith teamed up for a first-place tie at the 2010 Titleist/Foot Joy Pro-Scratch Amateur event at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course Monday.Shields and Smith carded a 64 to tie Gene Walter of Pine Creek Golf Center and Matt Simone.Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club and Geoff Petterson finished in a five-way tie for eighth place (67).McClellan captured the low professional event (68) while Smith tied for first in the low amateur event (68) and registered a hole-in-one on the 181-yard No. 18 hole with a 6-iron.

PITTSBURGH — Carnegie Mellon University junior Molly Evans, a graduate of Butler, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team for the 2009-10 swimming and diving season.Evans, who was named to the District 2 first team, which encompasses Pennsylvania, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey, will advance to the national ballot for all-American consideration.Evans maintains a 4.0 GPA and studies biology.

CLEVELAND — Less than two weeks after their stunning, second-round loss to Boston in the NBA playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers fired Mike Brown Monday, an expected move that perhaps indicates the team believes it can re-sign LeBron James, the two-time MVP and free agent-in-waiting.Brown was the most successful coach in franchise history. In five seasons, he led the Cavs to the playoffs every year, to the finals in 2007 and to 127 wins in the past two seasons. But Brown failed to win a championship, and after Cleveland's second straight early exodus from the postseason — a collapse that included two blowout losses at home and dissension in the Cavs' locker room — and with James about to explore free agency, owner Dan Gilbert decided to make a change.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday protection in hopes of spurring completion of the stalled $575 million sale of the team — and maybe clear the decks for the new owners to make pennant-chasing decisions this summer.The bankruptcy filing comes four months after Tom Hicks announced an agreement to sell the team to a group led by Hall of Fame pitcher and team president Nolan Ryan and Pittsburgh attorney Chuck Greenberg.
