21 will compete for county crown

Winner goes on to state event in Aug.

The 49th annual Butler County Junior Miss Scholarship Program will showcase 21 contestants at 7 p.m. May 22 at Slippery Rock University's Miller Auditorium.

Scholarships will be awarded to the top three contestants based on personal interviews, scholastic achievements, talent, fitness and poise. Smaller scholarship awards also will be given to individual category winners.

In addition to receiving a scholarship, the Butler County winner will proceed to the state pageant, scheduled for August in Johnstown. The state winner will advance to the national pageant, which will be held in June 2011 in Mobile, Ala.

The director of the pageant is Catie Brown. Choreographers are Taylor McLaughlin and Annie Rosellini, Butler County's 2010 Junior Miss.

Chairwoman of the event is Barbara Brandon. Lyric Schnur is president of the board of directors.

Major sponsor of the county program is Gilliland Vanasdale Law Office in Cranberry Township.

This year's Butler County contestants include:•n Marissa Andreassi is the daughter of Timothy and Patricia Andreassi of Butler. She is a senior at Butler High School, where she belongs to the National Honor Society and is on the principal's high honor roll. She will perform "Tea for Two" on the piano. • Jaclyn Basta is the daughter of Jack and Joanne Basta of Slippery Rock. She attends Slippery Rock High School, where she is on high honor roll and participates in varsity cheerleading and varsity basketball. She will recite the poem "Chanson d'automne" in French. • Sarah Bishop is the daughter of Scott and Lori Bishop of Butler. She is a student at Butler High School, where she represented the school as first chair at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association event. She also belongs to the National Honor Society and Thespians Drama Club. Sarah will sing "If I Had my Way."

• Jennifer Chelko is the daughter of Michael and Shirley Chelko of Sarver. She is a student at Freeport High School, where she belongs to the National Honor Society and Young American Twirl Team. She will do a twirling routine to "One Night Only" from the movie "Dream Girls." • Crystal Chilcott is the daughter of Don and Shirley Chilcott of Butler. She attends Butler High School, where she is on student council and has earned an academic achievement award. She also does figure skating. Crystal will skate to "Via Dolorosa" as sung by Sandi Patty. • Emily Hartung is the daughter of Richard and Linda Hartung of Butler. She attends Butler High School, where she is a Regional Youth representative and is on the yearbook staff and track and field team. She will play "L'orage" on the piano.

• Stephanie Hilliard is the daughter of Chuck and Sue Hilliard. She attends Slippery Rock High School, where she is an Academic Decathlon national medalist and a three-year member of the drill team. She also has dual enrollment at Slippery Rock University. Stephanie will dance to "Don't Rain on My Parade." • Ashley Hughes is the daughter of Gary and Kim Hughes of Saxonburg. She attends Knoch High School, where she is a 2009 World Affairs Council student delegate and was named among National Society of High School Scholars. She also was named a 2009 Miss Twirling Unlimited regional majorette. She will do a dance and twirl routine to "On Broadway" from the musical "Smokey Joe's Cafe." • Katherine Kosiorek is the daughter of Dr. David and Maria Kosiorek of Slippery Rock. She attends Slippery Rock High School, where she is in the National Honor Society, has appeared in school musicals, and was a state qualifier in speech and debate. She will sing "On My Own" from "Les Miserables."

• Ashley Krause is the daughter of Kurt and Pamela Krause of Mars. She is a student at Mars High School, where she participates in the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute, Key Club and track and field. She will do a gymnastics performance. • Norryannah Kubala is the daughter of Gary and Barbara Kubala of Saxonburg. She attends Knoch High School, where she belongs to the National Society of High School Scholars, is on high honor roll and has earned a Student Athlete Award. She will sing "Your Hands" by J.J. Heller. • Camaria Lehman is the daughter of Jada Lehman and Timothy Lindey of Harmony. She attends Seneca Valley High School, where she is in the National Honor Society and Rotary Youth Leadership Alliance and has participated in Dance Because You Care. She will do a lyrical dance to "I'm Free."

• Emily Mancino is the daughter of Joseph and Juliet Mancino of Cranberry Township. She is a student at Seneca Valley High School, where she was an N-Vision Our Powerful Future Westinghouse nominee and belongs to the Tri-M Honors Music Society and the pom-pon squad. She will sing "Don't Rain on My Parade" from "Funny Girl." • Colleen McKeag is the daughter of James and Kathy McKeag of Valencia. She attends Knoch High School, where she is on the National Honor Society and Young Americans Twirl Team. She also is majorette captain. Colleen will do a twirling routine to music from the Broadway show "Sweet Charity." • Alexandra Mientus is the daughter of Chet and Linda Mientus of Freeport. She attends Freeport High School, where she is in National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. She will sing "Gimme Gimme" from the Broadway show "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

• Jenna Molczan is the daughter of Jeff and Terri Molczan of Butler. She attends Butler High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society. She also is a church epistle reader and competitive dancer. Jenna will do a lyrical dance to "I Can Only Imagine." • Alyssa Nichol is the daughter of Robert and Kim Nichol of Sarver. She attends Freeport High School, where she belongs to the Key Club, is a varsity cheerleader co-captain and has participated in school musicals. Alyssa will do a jazz dance to "Ain't No Other Man." • Megan Recio is the daughter of Fernando and Wendy Recio of Cabot. She is a student at Knoch High School, where she has participated in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association honors band, marching band and school musicals. She will perform Hindemith's Sonate on the flute.

• Olivia Reddick is the daughter of John and Cindy Reddick of Butler. She attends Butler High School, where she is on student council and in the National Honor Society. She also is vice president of the Butler Memorial Hospital Candy Stripers. She will play "Memory" from the Broadway musical "Cats" on the piano. • Sabrina Turner is the daughter of Brad and Lynn Turner of Butler. She is a student at Knoch High School, where she is in the National Society of High School Scholars and on high honor roll. She also has participated in the In the Light church service event. She will sing "Dreams to Dream" from "An American Tail." • Julia Williams is the daughter of Richard and Jane Williams of Zelienople. She attends Seneca Valley High School, where she is in the National Honor Society and on he pom-pon squad. She also has earned a Girls Scouts Silver Award. Julia will do a ballet pointe performance.
