Master

Harold Eugene Master, 85, an Allegheny-Clarion Valley community leader and retired construction company vice-president, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Master was born in Turkey City on Aug. 23, 1924. He was the son of Edward and Margaret Myers Master. He was a lifelong Turkey City resident.

He was a 1942 graduate of St. Petersburg-Richland High School, and his class was the first to complete all 12 grades in the St. Petersburg School building.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. He was a life member of the VFW and belonged to the Roy Calvin McGinnis Post 7073 in Parker and the Miller-Rankin American Legion Post 636 in Foxburg.

He was a 50-year member of the Canby Lodge 520 F&AM in St. Petersburg, the Scottish Rite Bodies in both the Valley of Oil City and Valley of New Castle, as well as the Council Chapter Consistory of both lodges, Shriners International, the Elk County Shrine Club, and the Clarion County Shrine Club.

Mr. Master was a longtime superintendent and vice president of Bracken Construction in Sligo. He held a certificate as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania and was also a Pennsylvania licensed surveyor. Following his retirement from Bracken, he was a Richland Township supervisor and had been president of the St. Petersburg-Richland Township Sewer Authority.

He was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg and served many years on the church council.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing and an occasional game of pool.

Mr. Master is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Johnson Master. Also surviving are a son, Edward Master and his wife, Eileen, of Grove City; and two daughters, Shari Master McCall and her husband, Larry, of Eau Claire and Cindy Master Cullen of Emlenton. Three grandchildren survive, Stephanie McCall of Eau Claire and Brady and Rachel Cullen, both of Emlenton. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jack David Master.

<B>MASTER</B> — Friends of Harold Eugene Master, who died Monday, March 22, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg, with the Rev. Deborah Jacobson, church pastor, officiating. Interment, with full military honors accorded by the Foxburg American Legion and the Parker VFW, will take place in Monroe Cemetery.
