PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda has signed his $1,176,000, one-year tender offer.

Sepulveda was a restricted free agent, but no other NFL clubs were willing to give the Steelers a draft pick to sign him.

Gravitational force overpowered out-of-control Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili and left him unable to avoid the crash that claimed his life hours before the opening ceremony at the Vancouver Olympics, the International Luge Federation concluded in a report Monday.The FIL reaffirmed that the crash was an "unforeseeable fatal accident" caused by a number of factors.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Viper Stars AAA Tier I amateur hockey club is joining the North American Prospects Hockey League next season.The NAPHL is an affiliate of the North American Hockey League and features 46 amateur teams from across the United States. It is considered the premier amateur hockey league in Pennsylvania.The Viper Stars' Midget Major (under-18), Midget Minor (under-16) and Bantam (under-14) teams will play in the league.Shane Gallagher of Freeport, Kaleb Schwab and Tyler Mesisca of Seneca Valley and Tyler Stepke and Elliot Tisdale of Mars all played for the Viper Stars' under-18 team last year.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior shortstop Adam Jury was named PSAC West Co-Baseball Player of the Week.Jury batted .56 (10-for-18) with eight RBI, six runs scored, four doubles and a grand slam in five games last week.SRU won three of those games and can be denied a PSAC playoff berth this weekend only if Gannon wins three of four games against co-division leader Indiana (Pa.).

INDIANA — Megan McCormick, a sophomore first baseman for the Indiana (Pa.) University softball team and a graduate of Seneca Valley, was named the PSAC Central Player of the Week.McCormick batted .500 (7-for-14) with a home run, two doubles and six RBI in doubleheaders against Lock Haven and Mansfield. She also scored five runs and had a .857 slugging percentage.
