HARRISBURG — A first grade student from Sligo Elementary School placed in a statewide poster contest.

Makenna Shaner took second place in the American Traffic Safety Services Foundation contest for the Pennsylvania chapter in her age category.

Sligo Elementary is in the Union School District.

The contest was part of National Work Zone Awareness Week and was sponsored by the American Traffic Safety Services Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Makenna will receive cash for her winnings.
