Thomas 'Tiny' Davis, ex SR-mayor, fire chief

Today our best friend left for a vacation of a lifetime. He is going to spend time with family and friends that he has not seen in a while. We wish him love and peace.

Thomas E. "Tiny" Davis, 67, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Thursday at his home in Slippery Rock.

Born on Aug. 6, 1942, to Edward MacGilvary Davis and Marjorie Aiken Davis, he was the companion of Janet A. "Jan" McDowell for more than 34 years.

He was a Protestant, a U.S. Army veteran, and was very active in community service. The Slippery Rock Rotary Club awarded him with a Paul Harris Fellowship at its 1997 Community Service Awards Banquet at Slippery Rock University.

A former mayor of Slippery Rock, Tiny served as fire chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department for more than 16 years and was a lifetime member. He also served as the president of the Fire Chiefs Association.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed RVing with family and friends.

Mr. Davis retired in March 2007 as a 911 operator for Butler County Communications Center and crew chief of the fire department for the VA Butler Healthcare. He also was a retired employee for Pullman Standard in Butler.

Survivors include his companion, Janet A. "Jan" McDowell of the residence; a sister Ann Kinney of Butler; two nieces, Rhonda Houston of Slippery Rock and Kristy Kinney of Butler; a nephew, Chip Kinney of Ford City; Cindy White, who he raised like a daughter, and her husband, Jeff; and a grandson, Austin White, all of Boyers.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters.

<B>Davis</B> — Friends of Thomas E. "Tiny" Davis, who died Thursday, March 11, 2010, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock and from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Monday at the Highland Presbyterian Church, Franklin Street, Slippery Rock. Services will be conducted by the Rev.
