Soroptimist club honors 4 women

Soroptimist International of Butler County honored four local women March 13 at a fashion show and luncheon at the Butler Country Club. Honored, from left, were Phyllis LaPorte, Woman of the Year; Leslie Hazlett, Violet Richardson Award; Leslie Osche, Woman of Distinction Award; and Jenette Armentrout, Women's Opportunity Award.

Soroptimist International of women March 13 at a fashion show and luncheon with the theme "Live Your Dream" at the Butler Country Club.

Jenette Armentrout of Butler received the Women's Opportunity Award, given each year to a woman seeking to improve her economic status by gaining additional skills, training or education. She is a mother of two and a full-time student.

Leslie Hazlett of Center Township, a junior at Butler High School, received the Violet Richardson Award based on her volunteer work.The 2010 Woman of Distinction Award was presented to

Leslie Osche of Butler Township, executive director of the United Way of Butler County. Soroptimist is making a donation to the education program of the Grace Youth and Family Foundation in Osche's name.The Woman of the Year is

Phyllis LaPorte of Center Township. An elementary teacher in the Mars School District, LaPorte is president-elect of SIBC and also a past president.———

The <B>Lighthouse Foundation</B> received a $5,000 grant March 17 from the <B>TJX Foundation</B>.<B>Paul Glossman</B>, Butler TJ Maxx store manager, presented the check to <B>Dan Borchert</B>, executive director of the Lighthouse Foundation.The Butler TJ Maxx store applied for the funds on behalf of the Lighthouse Foundation and recently received word from their corporate office that the request was granted.———A food drive was held to help the <B>Cabot United Methodist Church</B> replenish its food bank after the holiday season.<B>Sharon Wissinger</B>, dietary manager at Saxony Health Center, presented 10 boxes of food donated to <B>Sue Shalltes</B>, food bank director at Cabot United Methodist Church.The food bank supports more than 90 families in the communities of Saxonburg and Clearfield, Winfield and Buffalo townships.———The winners at the Butler Duplicate Bridge Club March 25 were:First: <B>Lorraine Worsley</B> and <B>Bob Freemon</B>Second: <B>Bill Stewart</B> and <B>Tom Richards.</B>
