ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Redskins added yet another veteran running back to the roster, agreeing to terms with Willie Parker for a one-year deal.

Parker agreed Friday to a contract that could be worth as much as $3.1 million with incentives.

The Redskins already have 28-year-old Clinton Portis returning, and they recently signed 30-year-old Larry Johnson to a three-year, incentive-laden deal.

Parker is 29 and has played six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, winning two Super Bowl rings. He has three 1,200-yard seasons, but ran for only 389 yards last year as a backup.

Parker's agent, Douglas Hendrickson, said the Redskins have told Parker that "it's an open competition for the starting job."

OKLAHOMA CITY — Kayla, Kelsey and Kandice Brendlinger of Slippery Rock won national titles at the Girls Folkstyle Wrestling National Championships recently.Wrestling in the high school division at 109 pounds, Kayla decisioned Sarah Holdebrandt of Granger, Ind., 4-0 in the finals.Wrestling in the schoolgirl (grades six to eight) division at 110 pounds, Kelsey decisioned Brooke Olesen of Kansas 10-1 in the finals.Wrestling in the novice division (grades one to five) in the 65-to-67 pound division, Kandice pinned her first opponent in 26 seconds, decisioned Breanna Raines of Kansas 6-0 and pinned Madison Dekker of Cleveland in 1:44.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates traded minor league pitcher Virgil Vasquez to the Tampa Bay Rays Friday for a player to be named.Vasquez went 2-5 with a 5.84 ERA last season in 14 games, including seven starts before being removed from the Pirates' 40-man roster. The right-hander was among the first players cut during spring training.The Pirates planned to use Vasquez as a starter at Triple-A Indianapolis. The Rays wanted Vasquez — a former Tigers prospect — for possible use in their bullpen this season.

PHILADELPHIA — Ryan Howard and Chase Utley homered, Kyle Kendrick pitched three hitless innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 on Friday night.The defending NL champions returned to Philadelphia for the first of two exhibition games at Citizens Bank Park, and were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of 43,035. They play the Pirates again on Saturday before opening the season on Monday in Washington.Ross Ohlendorf pitched five innings for Pittsburgh, yielding five runs and nine hits, including the homers to Utley and Howard.Andrew McCutchen and Andy LaRoche had two hits apiece for Pittsburgh.

TORONTO — The NHL has suspended Atlanta Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong for two games without pay for hitting an opponent in the head during a game.Armstrong was suspended Friday for using his elbow to hit Washington Capitals forward Mathieu Perreault in the head during a game Thursday night. Armstrong wasn't penalized for the hit, which occurred at the 12:40 mark of the second period.Perreault was injured on the play but returned later in the game.As a result of the suspension, Armstrong will forfeit $24,870.47 to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. He will miss Saturday's game at Pittsburgh and Tuesday's home game against New Jersey, and be eligible to return next Friday at Washington.
