Trinity Living Center, Grove City's multilevel nursing home, provides personal care, skilled nursing care, out-patient rehab/physical therapy and is a state certified Continuing Care Retirement Community.

It is also Grove City's only Eden Alternative-certified home.

In 2007, Trinity Living Center began a "culture change journey" to transition from the traditional medical model nursing home to a person-centered, human habitat model of care. That journey continues today.

Residents and staff believe in and practice Eden Alternative principles, which strive to combat the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom, which account for the bulk of suffering among seniors.

Not only are the surroundings cheery and homey, but plants and animals are abundant. Lots of birds and several cats make their home at Trinity, and Duke, a black Lab mix, is a frequent visitor.

Residents can be found talking and laughing, participating in activities, going on outings, and making personal decisions regarding their own care.

Administrator Jean Dobay is an active member of the Grove City community and serves as a volunteer with the Rotary Club, the chamber of commerce, and other civic organizations in addition to her duties at Trinity.

Again this year, Trinity Living Center will host a number of community events to bring all residents of Grove City together.

The traditional Easter egg hunt is at 2 p.m. April 10. The Easter Bunny will bring cookies and milk for the children, and more than 1,200 plastic eggs will be hidden on the grounds for children from toddlers up to 10-years-old to find.

On May 25, Trinity will host its second annual 5K Fun Run, with nearly $800 in cash prizes on the line for runners, and a post-race buffet.

And the popular "TLC ROCKS" event returns with the prestigious "Grove City Idol" competition and a giant car cruise on July 17. Children's activities, food vendors, and live entertainment will be on the agenda.
