Moses Jewelers

Moses Jewelers in Butler and in Seven Fields is celebrating 61 years in business.

The newest addition to the Moses family of jewelry stores opened in November 2009 on Route 228 next to SiBA restaurant in Seven Fields. The expansion to this location has provided Moses Jewelers with a fresh opportunity to serve southern Butler County with the same excellent quality, value and professional service that have long been the cornerstones of founder Merril Moses' business.

It began in 1949, when Merril Moses first opened his doors on Main Street in Lyndora after receiving his degree in watch making from the Western Pennsylvania School of Horology. After 19 years in a small, cramped space, he moved to a new location at 115 W. Cunningham St., Butler.

"This move proved to be the key to my success," Moses said. "Thankfully my business grew along with my family. At one time, all six children and my wife, Jane, worked with me."

Never resistant to change, and always future-thinking, Moses and his family in 1981 opened their second store at the then newly constructed Clearview Mall, north of Butler on Route 8. To this day, that store continues to grow and serve Butler. They have incorporated new trends, such as Chamilia beads, alongside the timeless traditions of high quality, unique diamond and colored gemstone jewelry and watches.

Even after more than 60 years in business, Merril Moses has never stopped looking to the future. While the downtown Butler store closed with the opening of the new Seven Fields location, Merril fully supported his sons in their decision. In fact, he attributes much of his success to them.

Larry, who recently celebrated 37 years in the business and is also a trained watchmaker, continues to provide customers with extraordinary service in an exceptionally friendly and professional way.

Tim, Butler's only graduate gemologist, selects the stores' diamonds and other fine gems and manages the daily operations of the business.

Tom works in the Diamond District in New York City. Always a source of new ideas and resources, he helps keep Moses Jewelers on the cutting edge of the gem industry.

Sixty-one years ago the company began with just one employee; now it has 15.

Moses Jewelers features such brands as Heart on Fire-The World's Most Perfectly Cut Diamond, Simon G., Rolex, Oris, Wittnauer, Accutron, Swiss Army, The Moses Watch, Coast Diamond, Rainbow Sapphire Collection, Chamilia beads, Troll beads, and custom creations from its jeweler.

Moses Jewelers received the 2001 Business of the Year Award for small businesses sponsored by the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. It also is a strong supporter of many organizations which strengthen the community including: the American Cancer Society; the United Way of Butler County; the Mental Health Association of Butler County; the YMCA; the Butler Public Library; the Butler County Symphony; Butler Little Theatre; Butler Township Little League Baseball; the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, and several schools.
