Balouris Eye Center is the provider of the Butler community's medical and surgical eye care and is a continuation of the practice originally founded in 1971 by John L. Wick, M.D.

Drs. Balouris and DeRenzo are Western Pennsylvania natives and both trained at the Eye and Ear Institute, UPMC Pittsburgh. Both doctors are certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Surgeries such as no stitch, no patch cataract surgery are done in the adjacent Butler Ambulatory Surgery Center. Laser surgery for diabetes and glaucoma is performed in our office. Both facilities are at the Benbrook Medical Center.

Comprehensive retinal services are provided by Drs. Sorr and Hoffman of Everett & Hurite Ophthalmic Association. They treat all conditions affecting the retina including macular degeneration with the use of Lucentis, retinal detachment and advanced diabetic retinopathy.

Recently, eye plastic services have been expanded with the addition of Randall Beatty, M.D., director of eye plastic reconstructive and orbital surgery at AGH. Complex eyelid abnormalities can now be treated at our adjacent surgery center.

The practice also is involved with various county organizations, including the Butler County Association for the Blind, with Dr. Balouris serving on its board.

The practice sponsors a local summer camp for the visually impaired as well as the Blind Association's annual 5K run, and is involved in other fundraising events for the organization.

Balouris Eye Center donates magazines for many senior centers and the Butler Public Library to help defray their costs.

Most recently, the practice has teamed with the Community Health Clinic of Butler County with the goal to provide free health care for those who qualify. In association with the clinic, Drs. Balouris and DeRenzo are able to provide specialized eye care for county residents in need.
