Douglas Van Deusen

Douglas Van Deusen, 88, of Butler died peacefully Friday in the VA Butler Healthcare in Butler Township.

Born Oct. 29, 1921, in Roscoe, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter Van Deusen and Lydia Kish Van Deusen and the eldest of seven children.

Mr. Van Deusen has been a resident of Butler since 1977. He was retired after 26 years from the former Fisher Body Division of the General Motors Corp., in Trenton, N.J.

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He saw service in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Mr. Van Deusen was a member of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Butler Moose Lodge 64 and a member of Western Pennsylvania Moose Legion 1. Mr. Van Deusen also belonged to the American Legion 778 and was a life member of VFW Post 249 and Butler Elks 170.

Mr. Van Deusen is survived by two sons, Gary R. Van Deusen of Pittsburgh and Larry J. (Annette) Van Deusen of Williamsburg, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Jayne) Daubner of Clarks Summit, Pa.; and nine grandchildren, Dana (Bob) Harvey, Douglas Van Deusen, Michele (Brian) Sullenger, Michael Van Deusen, Jennifer (Kevin) Avery, Allison Daubner, Bill Daubner, Adam Van Deusen, and Laura (Kevin) Richardson; and five great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Madelyn, and Jonathan Harvey, and Alexis and Camden Sullenger. Also surviving are a brother, Robert J. (Sharon) Szabo of Stephenson, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Pat (Marilyn) Laudato of Tuckerton, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Janice Van Deusen of Lawrenceville, N.J.; and Joanne Van Deusen of Butler.

Mr. Van Deusen was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Van Deusen; two brothers, William Van Deusen and Richard Van Deusen; and by two sisters, Jayne Passage and June Johnson.

<B>VAN DEUSEN</B> — Friends of Douglas Van Deusen, who died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor James Swanson officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made to the Covenant United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 230 E. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001 or to the Douglas H. Van Deusen Memorial Scholarship, c/o Allentown High School, 27 High Street, Allentown, NJ 08501.Officers and members of the Butler Moose Lodge 64 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
