GROVE CITY — Grove City College senior men's basketball player Andy O'Keefe was named to the All-Great Lakes Region second team by D3Hoops.com and to the All-ECAC South first team.

The 6-foot-7 center averaged 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while helping the Wolverines post a 19-9 overall record.

O'Keefe was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year earlier this season.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University sophomore attacker Amy Halls was named PSAC West Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.Halls scored 12 goals and added two assists in two games last week, becoming the first Rock player to win a PSAC weekly award since the program was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2007.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped an 8-7 decision to Indiana (Pa.) University Wednesday afternoon.The Rock (2-1 overall, 0-1 in the PSAC) led 5-3 at halftime.Amy Halls led SRU with three goals.

ASHBURN, Va. — Free-agent quarterback Rex Grossman signed a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins Wednesday.Grossman spent last season with the Houston Texans, where he worked with new Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan held the same position with the Texans and now will be an assistant to his father, new Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan.

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent quarterback Derek Anderson Wednesday.The one-time Pro Bowl quarterback comes to Arizona as the Cardinals look for someone to compete with Matt Leinart, the only quarterback the team has under contract after Kurt Warner's retirement.Anderson was released by Cleveland on March 9, ending an uneven five-year stint with the team.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington admitted Wednesday he made a "huge mistake" when he used cocaine and failed a Major League Baseball drug test last season.In his first public acknowledgment, Washington apologized for his behavior, eight months after he told Rangers president Nolan Ryan, who turned down the manager's offer to resign.Washington said he used cocaine only once and called it "stupid" and "shameful."Washington said he told the commissioner's office and Rangers officials about using cocaine before he had a routine drug test.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Fed up by his antics on and off the court, Seton Hall fired basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez Wednesday after a 19-win season.The dismissal came roughly 12 hours after the coach known as "Gonzo" endured an 87-69 loss in the opening round of the NIT, a game in which Seton Hall forward Herb Pope was ejected for hitting Texas Tech player below the belt and Gonzalez picked up his seventh technical foul of the season.The Pirates went 19-13 this season, including 9-9 in the Big East, both four-year highs for Gonzalez. However, he failed to get Seton Hall to the NCAA tournament.
