For fantasy team owners, it's all in the name

You've purchased three fantasy baseball magazines.

You can recite Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer's WHIP from memory.

Buster Olney, a writer for ESPN The Magazine, calls

you for fantasy baseball advice.Sure, you are prepared for your draft. You know who you are going to take with each and every selection. You have your sleeper list and your bust list. But like many avid fantasy baseball managers, you have overlooked one of the most important things: Just what are you going to call your team?If you pick "Pirates," prepare to be ridiculed. If you choose some form of common animal, you will be mocked.Picking a team name is just as important as your first-round selection — perhaps more so — because it sets the tone for your team. So, choose wisely. As a public service, I will list some team names I have come across in my travels around the Internet and in my own league so you don't get caught with your pants around you Ankiels.•

Honey Nut Ichiros: Not only will it lower your cholesterol, it will also raise your batting average.•

Jeters Never Prosper: Then again, if you ain't Jeetin', you ain't tryin'.•

The Milledge Idiots: If you draft Lastings Milledge early, you are definitely an idiot. Then again, if he ever fulfills his promise, you may be an idiot for passing him up.•

Billy Beane is Not My Lover: The Oakland A's general manager probably isn't a good fantasy baseball owner, either, unless he is in one of those strikeout/walk OPS leagues.•

Kinsler's List: Also on the list is to find a good backup second baseman for when Kinsler inevitably gets hurt or goes into a late-season mega-slump.•

Dirty Sox: Butler Eagle staff writer Derek Pyda has used this team name for years. And, yes, his socks are sometimes dirty.•

Funky Cold Molina: Not sure which one, though: Yadier, Jose, Bengie or Gustavo.•

A Streetcar Named Cuddyer: You might be screaming "Stella" at the top of your lungs when your team tanks in July.•

Boys of BALCO: Dreamed up by the brother of Eagle staff writer Sam Tallarico when Barry Bonds' neck was still in the witness protection program, this is one of my all-time favorites.•

Grand Theft Votto: Drafting the Reds' first baseman last season was quite the "steal."•

No Country for Old Mets: Lots of stints on the disabled list, though.•

CC needs a Sabathia: He also needs Jenny Craig — and to straighten out his cap. He wears it crooked and it drives me bonkers.•

LaRoche Infestation: Pittsburgh had one last year, but at least the Pirates rid themselves of half of the brothers grim. And for my personal favorite:•

The Wrath of Zaun. Well-traveled catcher Greg Zaun doesn't unleash much wrath these days, but your fantasy team certainly could — if you have the name to back it up.Mike Kilroy is a staff writer for the Butler Eagle.
