FIRST TASTE OF SUCCESS
The Butler Golden Tornado hockey team had its most successful season to date during the 1975-76 season, going 13-8-3 overall and reaching the playoffs for the first time under first-year head coach Gary Montebell. Butler defeated Richland in the quarterfinals but bowed to Mount Lebanon in the semifinals. The Butler Hockey Association currently fields three teams — freshmen, junior varsity and varsity — but this year, none made the PIHL playoffs, which started Monday. However, four teams from the county did: Mars, Knoch, Freeport and Seneca Valley. Members of the 1975-76 ice edition were, front row from left, Steve Marnic, Dennis Heichel, Chris Thompson, Henry Dimmick, Rich Zambroski, Tom Dougherty, Dino Cerchie and Paul McKitten; second row, Craig Reismeyer, Jim Taylor, Mike Taylor, Leo Stepanian, Randy Cygan, Scott Bonham, John Minehart and Dom Roccki; back row, Mike Stillwagon, Marc Fallon, Jimmy Greenbaum, Mark Krchnak, Dave Swanson, John Keck, Wink Robinson and Montebell. Missing from the photograph are goalie coach Dick Rittelmann, Rich Staryat, Don Stewart, Rich Ghering and Mitch Graham.
