CINCINNATI — The Vanderbilt University women's basketball team is slated to play DePaul University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 12;11 p.m. Sunday at the Cintas Center.

Jence Rhoads, a junior guard from Slippery Rock, started all 30 games she played this season for the Commodores (22-10). She is averaging 13.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. She also leads the team in minutes per game (36.6).

DePaul (21-11) enters as the No. 11 seed in the West region. Vanderbilt (22-10) is the No. 6 seed. The winner will face the No. 3 Xavier-No. 14 East Tennessee State University winner on Tuesday.

NEVILLE ISLAND — Danielle DePolo, 10, of Center Township won a silver and a bronze medal at the Shamrock Skate competition over the weekend at Neville Island.DePolo won a silver medal in free skate and a bronze medal in the spotlight skate.Working with her coach, DePolo revamped her style in October from being an elegant skater to a power skater. She is a fifth-grade student at Center Township Elementary School.

NATRONA HEIGHTS — The Butler Catholic Saints Girls third- and fourth-grade basketball team captured the Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Tournament last weekend.The Saints defeated Holy Sepulcher 13-2, Blessed Sacrament 14-6 and St. Mary's 11-3.Team members are Maggie Bartony, Anna Chiprean, Emily Hegedus, Emma Lemay, Erin Lemay, Sophia Wiest, Abigail Book, Leah Bowden, Diana Cantera, Mia Maher, Tina Roth, Julia Singleton and Alyx Watson. The team is coached by Joe Wiest.

TURKU, Finland — David Beckham's left Achilles' tendon was totally torn, and the doctor who performed the surgery said the England midfielder is expected to be out of action for about six months."He is doing well and the operation lasted just under an hour. It went very well," Dr. Sakari Orava told The Associated Press after the operation.Beckham's spokesman, Simon Oliveira, said the tendon was completely repaired, and he expected the 34-year-old midfielder to play again."David is expected to make a full recovery," Oliveira said.Orava also said it would be "four months to running" and another two months before playing.The former England captain was injured in the closing minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.
