Alberta L. Bodkin, 78, formerly of Cabot, died Sunday at the Saxony Healthcare Center.

She had previously lived in Point Marion, Pa., for 20 years and in Salisbury, Md., for eight years before moving to Cabot.

She was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Lake Lynn, Pa., a daughter of the late James A. Shipp Jr. and the late Olive Spacht Shipp.

Alberta was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Her husband, Edwin Forrest Bodkin Sr., who she married Feb. 28, 1949, preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2003. Two sisters, Thelma Shipp and Viola Shipp Moon, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, David and Darlene Bodkin of Cabot, Naomi and Richard Esau of Virginia Beach, Va., Edwin and Karen Bodkin Jr. of Morgantown, W.Va., and Mark and Lori Bodkin of Butler.

One brother, James A. Shipp of Smithfield, and one sister, Emily Hegedis of Lake Lynn, also survive.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Gerald, Tammy and Bradley Bodkin, Megan Esau, Mark Bodkin and his wife, Allison, and Jenna Bodkin, as well as several nieces and nephews.

<B>Bodkin</B> — Friends of Alberta L. Bodkin, who died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, Butler. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Linhart Jr. officiating.
