BUFFALO TWP — The township supervisors Wednesday addressed land development issues, including a new medical office building.

The supervisors approved the site plan for Associates in Respiratory Medicine to convert a vacant house at 810 S. Pike Road into a medical office building.

The staff of a doctor and three full-time employees will treat and diagnose lung diseases and sleep disorders there.

The supervisors also waived the building permit requirement for a lot at 201 Harbison Road. A May 2007 fire destroyed the house on the property.

The condition for the waiver is that a new house must be built exactly where the previous house was.

Township officials said the landowners wanted the waiver to make the property more marketable for a sale.

Another site plan proposal was delayed because the developer needs more time to deal with several issues.

Supervisor Gary Risch will open a restaurant in the building off Route 356 that is the former site of Risch's Market, which closed in 2007.

In other action, the supervisors addressed a bridge repair project.

A $16,380 contract was awarded to RCC Building Contractors of Pittsburgh to fix a small concrete bridge on Bear Creek Road that was damaged by a motorist.

RCC submitted the lowest of eight bids.

The supervisors also discussed how the township dealt with snow removal.

Both officials and residents praised the crew's efforts, saying township roads were in better shape than state roads following the record-setting Feb. 6 snowfall.
