Lawrence W. Monks, 95, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., died Tuesday.

Formerly of Butler, he had lived there since 1974, retiring from the state of Pennsylvania after 30 years as a state store manager.

Larry served as president of the Sabal Palm Gardens condominium association and was an usher for many years at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres.

An avid follower of Fort Myers High School since the 1980s, when his son Bill was an assistant coach, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed reading, taking long walks and working in his yard.

He is survived by his son, William J. Monks of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a daughter, Sarah Ashton of Rochester, Minn.; his grandson, Charlie (Missy); a granddaughter, Beckie; and a great-granddaughter, Preslie.

Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther, in 1965, and his second wife, Margaret, in 2005.

<B>MONKS</B> — The family of Lawrence W. Monks, who died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the <B>Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home</B>, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
