James M. Grossman, 95, of West Sunbury passed away at 5 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in West Sunbury, the son of the late Hugh Grossman and Gracia Graham Grossman.

Mr. Grossman was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.

He was a self employed coal miner and a mechanic/welder for Tri County and Sunbeam Coal Co.

He was a founding member of the West Sunbury American Legion Post 243. He also was a member of the Chicora Moose.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Delores Early and her husband, George, of Hilliards; three sons, Melvin J. and his wife, Ruth, of Ridgeville, Samuel E. and his wife, Doris, of West Sunbury and Larry J. and his wife, Judy, of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby L. Grossman, who died June 28, 2000; a son, Richard; two infant children; three sisters; a brother; a great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren.

YOUNG FUNERAL HOME,</B> 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Hastings of Harrisville Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.Military honors will be provided at the funeral home by the Moniteau Ceremonial Squad.
